Overview

Found singly, or in small, loose schools, hovering above coral and rubble areas, in caves and crevices, over steep drop-offs, outer reef slopes, and outer channel walls.

Dottybacks are usually small and often brightly coloured.
They live inside the reefs structure, often at the back of caves and are very territorial and aggressive.
Females lay eggs which are guarded by the males who pick them up in their mouths on a regular basis to mix and aerate them.
