Overview

Found singly, or in schools, foraging for food, over rock, sand and seagrass beds and around mangrove areas, in both brackish freshwater and salt water, over coastal bays, creeks, estuaries, lakes and coastal rivers.

Porgies are found in tropical as well as cooler waters, and are bottom-dwelling carnivores. Most species possess grinding, molar-like teeth, for eating crustaceans.
