Overview

Found in dense colonies, attached in reef crevices and under ledges, over rubble areas of coral and rocky reefs. These are not true sea anemones.
They feed on echinoderms including the crown-of-thorns sea star, nudibranchs and plankton.

Similar to sea anemones, but are flat, have short club-tipped tentacles or multiple branched fringing tentacles.
They are adept at taking over large areas of reef.
They have a very potent sting, when disturbed can shoot out stinging threads that have been known to sting through a lycra suit!
