Overview
Juveniles are small and striped black and white, with a bar across the snout between the eyes, a long dorsal fin and very long pelvic fins. They are often found in coastal lagoons and shallows, hovering in twos or threes at the entrances to recesses near sandy bottoms, and move deeper as they mature.
