I was thinking spotted coral croucher (caracanthus maculatus)? Here's an image of one that looks fairly similar: http://fishkeeper.co.uk/databank/freshwater/miscellaneous-fish/spotted-coral-croucher- I don't know though. Can;'t make out the body shape in the picture to tell if it fits.

The only other contender in the croucher/velvetfish genus would be Caracanthus typicus. But the reticulated pattern here seems to be a characteristic solely of Caracanthus madagascariensis (Gumdrop coral croucher) from what I have seen of fishbase images for the species.

I'm beginning to think maybe the Caracanthus madagascariensis, Gumdrop coral croucher. What do you think?

  4. Has the look of a wrasse possibly a Floral Wrasse (juvenile) - Cheilinus chlorourus http://www.whatsthatfish.com/fish/floral-wrasse-juvenile/1270 or could be Longfin Perchlet - Plectranthias longimanus http://www.whatsthatfish.com/fish/longfin-perchlet/1697 but neither look quite right!

Those projections fascinate me. Are those spines or papillae of sorts? Sorry, that I'm not helping. That is just a brilliant fish and I'm curious as to what it is too. Have a good day.
