Do you have a better picture? Was there any purple colouring in the jelly, also where was this picture taken as Purple Stingers are throughout Eastern Australia only!
I guess I'm trying too hard to get my Identifier badge ;) BTW, any ideas on the fish in my fist pic? That's what brought me here and it's been killing me.
That's right, there happen to be misleading photos. The one you found is hardly the right ID, to me. On the other hand, in some photos Pelagia looks white and the spots are well seen just in clear pictures. So there's no certainty at all. Maybe later.
That was my first though also and I defer to your expertise. The color and lack of "freckles" made me look elsewhere because the mauve stingers I've seen have very distinctive spots or freckles. When I found a supposed picture of a moon jelly with tentacles similar to this one I went for it, but this picture was probably misidentified:
Please enter some search params to find your fish! Keywords, names or nicknames should all work!
Alternatively, if you have NO IDEA what it is, click the green button to mark as unidentified.

I think it's hardly Aurelia a. I'd rather think of Pelagia noctiluca, though not sure about the colour.
Moon Jelly (Aurelia Aurita)
