Description

Also known as Leatherjacket, Six-spined Leatherjacket, Variable Leatherjacket.

Found singly or in pairs, over shallow and deep reefs, of bays, harbours and coastlines.
They feed on algae and invertebrates.
Juveniles found in shallow bays and estuaries.
Length - 60cm
Depth - 1-100m
Widespread Eastern Indian Ocean

Filefish can alter their colour and pattern to match their surrounds and so deter predators.
