Indian Goatfish (Parupeneus indicus)

Also known as Yellowspot Goatfish

Description

Also known as Yellowspot Goatfish.

Found singly or in schools foraging for food in shallow, silty waters over sand and seagrass beds of coastal and inner lagoon reefs.
They feed on crustaceans, small fish, benthic invertebrates and small octopus.
Length - 45cm
Depth - 1-30m
Widespread Indo-Pacific

Goatfish have two barbels extending form the chin, these are used to probe the sand for food such as worms, brittle stars, crustaceans and small fish.
They often have other fish in tow which hoover up any creatures left behind.
Some Goatfish can rapidly change colour and spots that were there magically disappear! Ref: https://www.fishbase.se/summary/Parupeneus-indicus
