Found in schools, in turbid inshore waters, over drop-offs of inshore fringing reefs and mangroves, entering estuaries and rivers with the tide.
They feed nocturnally on benthic algae.
Juveniles found over seagrass beds around estuaries.

Widespread Eastern Indian Ocean, Western Pacific

Rabbitfish are usually found in algae rich reefs.
