Description

Also known as Double-barred Goatfish, Indian Doublebar Goatfish, Threebar Goatfish, Twobar Goatfish, Two-barred Goatfish, Two-saddle Goatfish.

Found singly or in schools foraging for food over rock and weedy areas of lagoons and seaward reefs rich in algae and seaweed growth.
They feed on crustaceans, small fish, crab larvae and worms.
Juveniles over reef flats.
Length - 35cm
Depth - 0-80m
Widespread Indian Ocean

Goatfish have two barbels extending form the chin, these are used to probe the sand for food such as worms, brittle stars, crustaceans and small fish.
They often have other fish in tow which hoover up any creatures left behind.

    The Parupeneus crassilabris and Parupeneus trifasciatus are distinct species. They are misnamed and identified as which is which. Is it true that Parupeneus bifasciatus has been changed to Parupeneus trifasciatus or what exactly?
