Yes you can eat this fish. The reason it needs careful handling is because of the barbs on the tail which are venomous!

this whaleshark has been identified as a male, and has been seen many times over the last 4yrs swimming around South Ari Atoll, Maldives. it is usually spotted at around 5m depth go to http://www.whaleshark.org/sharks.jsp?shark=M-031 for more pics and info

I checked out what you said, but still cannot find the matching wrasses, have thought they might be a type of Cardinalfish, or a juvenile of some sort!
