Overview

Found singly or in large schools, sheltering during the day in caves and under ledges, dispersing at night, foraging for food over mud and rocky bottoms of coral and rocky reefs.
They feed nocturnally on the bottom, or in the water column, on fish and small invertebrates.

Males incubate their eggs inside their mouths, as the egg masses increase in size they can be found with wide open mouths where they shift the eggs around to aerate the egg masses.
