Overview

Found singly or in small schools, (adults rarely seen by divers as they are usually found in deep waters) over gravel patches and sand flats, of coral and rocky reefs.
Juveniles found in the arms of long-spined sea urchins, over shallow coastal bays, moving to deeper waters as they grow.

Most Snappers live in moderate depths, however there are a few that live much deeper. Juveniles found on inshore reefs.
They are nocturnal predators that mainly feed on fish, but will eat crustaceans, gastropods and cephalopods.
Some smaller family members eat zooplankton.
