Overview

Found in loose schools, over shallow sandy bottoms and seagrass beds, of estuaries, rivers, and coastal shorelines.
Juveniles found over sandy bottoms of intertidal areas and in tide-pools.

Grunters have this name because of the loud grunting noise that is produced by the swimbladder.
