I see, but the name A.maculatus suggests there're spots over the fish's body, right? Not too numerous, but there are distinct black dots, especially over its upper part, on the tail and fins. Probably juveniles don't have them, I just don't know this fact. I don't see similar photos on fishbase in particular. I assume that my ID doesn't match well with your picture and your match also doesn't seem to be that very convincing, either. That's it :)

the reason I mentioned juvenile trumpetfish (Aulostomus maculatus) is because the color and patter remind me of this:
Just a shot: maybe the Short-tailed pipefish - Microphis brachyurus when young indeed...
