Yes we thought so to because they do have yellow around the eye, but as you say not usually a pattern like that on the body, although I have seen other emperors change into odd colours and patterns in front of my eyes.
It resembles a Monotaxis grandoculis, Humpnose big-eye bream, but I haven't seen one with such colouring...Still it looks like an emperor fish.
