  1. Trumpetfish are not usually aggressive but they do sometimes shadow divers in the same way they shadow fish before they eat them. If you watch them they are usually shadowing one fish and changing colour to match their surroundings or the fish.

    I was swimming a ways out from a beach on the Varadero peninsula, Cuba and was prodded by a fairly aggressive fish looking like a trumpetfish. It actually followed me as I moved back to shore, then disappeared. Curiousity got the better of me and I went back to the location I first saw it and it went at me again--five times I pushed it away from my body, I was afraid it might latch onto me. It never bit me, but I swam off quickly after that.
