Found singly or in pairs, close to branching corals, in caves, crevices, over edges and tops, of shallow water coral reefs, rich in fire corals.
They feed on algae and fire coral polyps.
Juveniles found in the branches of yellow stinging corals.

Damselfish are egg layers.
