Also known as Caribbean Jewel Damsel, Jewel Damselfish, Jewelfish, Marine Jewelfish, Sheephead, Yellowtail Damsel, Yellowtail Jewel Damsel, Yellow-tailed Damselfish.

Found singly, or in pairs, close to branching corals, in caves and crevices, over edges and tops of shallow water coral reefs, rich in fire corals.
They feed on algae and fire coral polyps.
Juveniles found in the branches of yellow stinging corals.
Length - 18cm
Depth - 0-120m
Widespread Western Atlantic, Caribbean

Damselfish are egg layers.
First they clear a site ready for a nest, then engage in a mating dance with rapid swimming and fin movements, during this time the males will often turn a shade or two darker and may display white blotches.
