Description

Also known as Chromis, Puller, Spiny Chromis Damselfish, Spiny Damselfish, Spiny Puller, Spinytail Chromis, Spinytail Puller, Spotty-tail.

Found in pairs or small schools, over harbours, lagoons, and outer reef slopes, of inshore and off-shore reefs. Geographical colour variation.
They feed on floating algae and zooplankton.
Length - 13cm
Depth - 1-65m
Widespread Western Pacific

This is one of the few species not to go through a pelagic larval stage which may account for the variation in localities.

Damselfish are egg layers.
First they clear a site ready for a nest, then engage in a mating dance with rapid swimming and fin movements, during this time the males will often turn a shade or two darker and may display white blotches. Spawning occurs at dawn. (edit) Ref: https://www.fishbase.se/summary/6655
