Smooth Puffer (Lagocephalus laevigatus)

Description

Also known as Blowfish, Pufferfish, Swelltoad, Toadfish.

Found singly, or in small loose schools, over mud and sand bottoms of coastal and off-shore banks.
They feed on fish and shrimps.
Length - 100cm
Depth - 10-180m
Widespread Atlantic Ocean, Caribbean

The bodies of Pufferfish are covered in a toxic mucus, if the skin or flesh is consumed it can be fatal to humans.

    People eat those all the time. I’ve herd there’s no case of fatality on a Atlantic smooth skin puffer. First time hearing the skin in poisonous. It’s usually organs that contain the toxin. Particularly the gall bladder.
