Found singly or in mixed schools over hard mud bottoms over coastal and off-shore reefs.
They feed nocturnally on cephalopods, benthic crustaceans, fish and benthic invertebrates.

They are nocturnal predators that mainly feed on fish, but will eat crustaceans, gastropods and cephalopods.
