Found in sheltered waters, over mud and sand bottoms, of canals, creeks, ditches, rivers, and streams in forested areas.
They feed on algae, crustaceans, insects, and shrimps.

A freshwater fish often seen in the aquarium trade.
Can be very aggressive!
