Description

Also known as Hardhead, Hardhead Catfish, Hard-headed Sea Catfish, Saltwater Catfish.

Found in turbid waters, over muddy bottoms, around bridge and pier pilings, in river estuaries, inland waterways, and deeper waters of the ocean. Living in shallow waters in the summer moving to deeper waters in the winter.
They feed on algae, cnidarians, invertebrates, sea cucumbers, seagrasses, and worms.
Length 70cm
Depth - 1-110m
Widespread Western Atlantic

These are mainly seawater catfish.
Some of these catfish have venomous spines in the fins which can inflict painful wounds.
