Also known as American Cichlid, Firemouth, Firemouth Meeki, Mexican Firemouth, Redbreasted Cichlid.

Found over mud or sand bottoms, close to shorelines, of canals, rocky ponds, lower and middle sections of rivers rich in vegetation cover.
They feed on algae and invertebrates.
