Found during the day in standing and running waters over rocky shores of the upper Nile Basin.
They feed nocturnally on algae, crustaceans, fish eggs, insect larvae, molluscs and sponges.

Catfish have venomous spines in the fins which can inflict painful wounds. These fish also omit a squeaking sound, hence the name.
