Description

Also known as Eartheater, Freshwater Eartheater, Red-striped Eartheater.

Found in schools, over mud and sand bottoms, amongst rubble and tree roots, along shores and slopes, of the Amazon River basin in Brazil, also has been introduced to inland reservoirs and streams, in Singapore.
They feed on invertebrates, plant material, and seeds.

A freshwater fish often seen in the aquarium trade.
