Description

Also known as Black-barred Squirrelfish, Miss Darlington, Welchman.

Found singly, during the day, sheltering in small crevices, and holes in the reef, out at night foraging for food, over inshore reefs and tide-pools.
They feed nocturnally on crustaceans, fish, and worms.
Length - 18cm
Depth - 0-20m
Widespread Western Atlantic, Caribbean

Squirrelfish are nocturnal hunters feeding near the bottom on small fish and swimming crustaceans. During the day they often congregate close to reefs and in caves, sometimes found upside down in caves.
Their colour can change greatly in different lights and if threatened.
