Description

Also known as Dog's Tooth Snapper, Dogteeth Snapper, Snuggletooth Snapper.

Found singly or in small schools, during the day drifting in the shade of large corals heads and gorgonians, dispersing at night hunting for food. Colour varies from silvery grey to copper, sometimes displaying a bar pattern on the back.
They feed nocturnally on cephalopods, benthic crustaceans, fish, and benthic invertebrates.
Juveniles found in estuaries and rivers.

Depth - 2-40m
Widespread Eastern Atlantic, Western Atlantic, Caribbean

Most Snappers live in moderate depths, however there are a few that live much deeper. Juveniles found on inshore reefs.
They are nocturnal predators that mainly feed on fish, but will eat crustaceans, gastropods and cephalopods.
