Description

Also known as Eel-barbel, Eel Catfish, Eel-tailed Catfish, Indian Eel Catfish.

Found singly, along coastlines and in estuaries. They are bottom feeders and use the barbels around their mouth to detect food.
They feed on crustaceans, fish and molluscs.
Juveniles form tightly packed schools for feeding which may contain hundreds of fish.
Length - 40cm
Depth - 0-75m
Widespread Western Indian Ocean

Catfish have venomous spines in the fins which can inflict painful wounds.
