Description

Also known as Cortez Chub, Drummer, Pacific Chub, Rudderfish.

Found singly or in schools, sometimes mixed with Kyphosus analogus, or grazing with Prionurus laticlavius, in shallow waters close to shore. Has the ability to change from plain grey to spots.
They feed mainly on filamentous algae, but ingest benthic invertebrates and plankton.

Depth - 1-40m
Eastern Pacific - Gulf of California to Ecuador
