Description

Also known as Blackpearl Moray, Pearly Moray, Pearly Moray Eel, Pearly Reef Eel, Trunk-eyed Moray.

Found during the day hiding amongst dead corals venturing out to forage for food at night over reef flats and outer reef slopes.
They feed mainly on cephalopodes, crustaceans and fish.
Length - 70cm
Depth - 8-25m
Widespread Indo-Pacific

Morays open and close their mouths to move water through their gills for respiration.
This behaviour can often be seen as a threat especially towards divers, in fact this is far from the truth, they are very shy creatures and will only attack if provoked! Ref: https://www.fishbase.se/summary/5393
