Found singly or in small schools over rubble areas of silty shallow inner reef flats and sheltered lagoons rich in algae growth.
They feed on filamentous algae and benthic invertebrates.

The bodies of Pufferfish are covered in a toxic mucus, if the skin or flesh is consumed it can be fatal to humans.
