Found singly or in small schools, over eelgrass beds and sandy bottoms of coastal areas.
They feed on crustaceans, hydrozoans, invertebrates and worms.

Depth - 0-90m
Widespread Eastern Atlantic, Sea-of-Azov, Black Sea, Mediterranean
