Description

Also known as Horned Squirrelfish, Red Squirrelfish, Redcoat, Red-striped Squirrelfish, Tailspot Squirrelfish.

Found during the day, in caves and under ledges, out foraging for food at night, over drop-off's, and outer reef slopes, rich in coral growth.
They feed nocturnally mainly on benthic crabs and shrimps.
Length - 27cm
Depth - 6-40m
Widespread Western Pacific

Squirrelfish are nocturnal hunters feeding near the bottom on small fish and swimming crustaceans. During the day they often congregate close to reefs and in caves, sometimes found upside down in caves.
Their colour can change greatly in different lights and if threatened.
