Also known as Australian Arowana, Barramunda, Dawson River Salmon, Gulf Saratoga, Saratoga Arowana, Saratoga Barramundi, Southern Saratoga, Spotted Arowana, Spotted Australian Arowana, Spotted Barramundi, Spotted Bonytongue, Spotted Saratoga, Queensland Saratoga.
Found near the surface and close to shore, of slow-flowing streams, rich in vegetation cover.
They feed on crayfish, fish, frogs, aquatic and terrestrial insects.

Valued aquarium fish although hard to keep!
The name "bonytongues" is derived from a toothed bone on the floor of the mouth, the "tongue", equipped with teeth that bite against teeth on the roof of the mouth. The arowana is a facultative air breather and can obtain oxygen from air by sucking it into its swim bladder.
