Description

Also known as Cod, Coney, Grasby Seabass, Hind, Kitty Mitchell, Rockcod, Trout.

Found singly and secretive, in areas with places to hide, during the day in crevices, under ledges, around rocky areas, and in seagrass beds, dispersing at night to feed, over coral reefs.
They feed nocturnally on crustaceans and fish.
Juveniles feed on shrimps.

Widespread Western Central Atlantic, Caribbean

Groupers are solitary carnivores that hunt near the bottom usually at dusk. Food is drawn into their mouths by a powerful suction when they open their overly large mouths and then swallowed whole.
