Description

Also known as Highfin Cardinal, Highfin Cardinalfish, Many-lined Cardinalfish, Nurseryfish.

Found singly or in schools, during the day hiding in crevices and rubble areas, over reef flats and slopes, of inshore reefs, dispersing at night to hunt for food.
They feed nocturnally on crustaceans, small fish, and zooplankton.

Depth - 0-30m
Widespread Indo-Pacific

Males incubate their eggs inside their mouths, as the egg masses increase in size they can be found with wide open mouths where they shift the eggs around to aerate the egg masses. (edit) Ref: https://www.fishbase.se/summary/13003
