Found singly or in schools, in coastal bays and estuaries, also close to the sea bed of the continental shelf, as well as in the water column close to reefs with rough bottoms, often mixed with other fish.
Juveniles found in bays, estuaries and shallow continental shelf waters.
They feed on benthic invertebrates and plankton.
