Description

Also known as Coral Demoiselle, Violet Damsel, Violet Damselfish, Yellow-tailed Demoiselle.

Found in small to large schools, sometimes in mixed schools, over shallow coral, debris, deep mud, and sandy slopes, around sponge encrusted mooring buoys, harbours, lagoons, and coastal reefs.
They feed on algae, fish eggs, and zooplankton.

Depth - 1-30m
Widespread Western Central Pacific

Damselfish are egg layers.
First they clear a site ready for a nest, then engage in a mating dance with rapid swimming and fin movements, during this time the males will often turn a shade or two darker and may display white blotches.
