Found singly or in small schools, sometimes mixed with goatfish, probing the sand for food, over clearwater coral and rocky bottoms of shallow and deeper reefs.
They feed on invertebrates.

Depth - 1-70m
Widespread Western Atlantic, Caribbean

Sea Bass are solitary carnivores that hunt near the bottom usually at dusk. Food is drawn into their mouths by a powerful suction when they open their overly large mouths and then swallowed whole.
