Description
Also known as Barbel-eel Catfish, Canine Catfish Eel, Catfish Eel, Coral Catfish, Darkfin Eel Catfish, Eel Catfish, Giant Catfish, Indo-Pacific Striped Eel Catfish, Lined Catfish, Striped Catfish, Striped Catfish Eel, Striped Sea Catfish.
Found singly or in large schools, hiding under ledges and rocks during the day, in estuaries and tide pools, of open coastal areas, but can be found in fresh water lakes in Africa. They are bottom feeders, using their mouth barbels to detect food.
They feed nocturnally on benthic crustaceans, fish, molluscs, and worms.
Juveniles form tightly packed schools for feeding, which may contain hundreds of fish.
