Found singly or in pairs, sharing their burrow with an alpheid shrimp, where they can be found sifting through sand with their mouths looking for food, over sandy bottoms of estuaries, lagoons, and seaward reefs.
They feed on benthic invertebrates.

Shrimp Gobies live a symbiotic relationship with snapping shrimps.
