Description

Also known as False Earspot Cardinalfish, Nurseryfish.

Found in schools, above remote coral and rock outcrops, over deep sandy slopes, in clear lagoons, dispersing at night to feed over the reef.
They feed nocturnally on benthic invertebrates and zooplankton.
Length - 8.7cm
Depth - 8-45m
Widespread Indo-West Pacific

Males incubate their eggs inside their mouths, as the egg masses increase in size they can be found with wide open mouths where they shift the eggs around to aerate the egg masses. Ref: https://www.fishbase.se/summary/24339
