Description

Also known as Waspfish.

Found singly, on mud and sand bottoms, over both inshore waters, too much deeper waters, of the continental shelf edge.
They feed on benthic crustaceans.
Length - 17.5cm
Depth - 35-180m
Widespread Western Atlantic, Caribbean

The pelvic fins act like legs as the fish walks along the bottom of the ocean. They also grunt or make chirping noises by expelling gas from their bladders. French term for the word Gurnard means to grunt. Ref: https://www.fishbase.se/summary/Prionotus-alatus
