Description

Also known as Barbells, Frogfish, Midshipman, Midshipman Fish.

Found singly, during the day in rocky areas, buried or resting on soft sand bottoms, floating just above the bottom at night to feed, over shallow to very deep waters of bays.
They feed nocturnally on crustaceans, small fish and invertebrates.
Length - 50cm
Depth - 0-126m
Widespread Eastern Pacific

Toadfish can make a load croaking noise with their swim bladders. They breathe air when out of water for up to 24hrs. Their mouth can open and expand to the width of their bodies to engulf large prey. Has poisonous spines. Ref: https://www.fishbase.se/summary/Porichthys-myriaster.html
