Found swimming or hovering above sand bottoms and seagrass beds over coral and rocky reefs, often display body bars when close to the bottom feeding.
They feed on invertebrates.
Juveniles found in sea grass beds.

Depth - 1-75m
Widespread Western Atlantic, Caribbean
