Also known as Allied Cowrie, False Cowrie Soft Coral Cowrie

Description

Also known as Allied Cowrie, False Cowrie Soft Coral Cowrie.

Found living with its host coral - Dendronephthya, over coral and rocky reefs.
They feed on soft corals and gorgonians.
Length - 0.8cm
Depth - 5-30m
Widespread Indo-Pacific

This species was named on honour of the well known American shell-dealer, Donald Dan.

Ovulidae usually have plain shells and brightly coloured mantles.
The Cowries are probably the most admired and sought after by shell collectors.
Cowries have few predators, but the mollusc-eating cones like Conus textile and octopus can inject venom into the cowry's flesh through a small hole and then sucks out the contents. Ref: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Primovula_roseomaculata
