Description

Also known as Leatherjacket, Rhino Filefish, Rhino Leatherjacket, Rhinoceros Filefish.

Found singly, pairs, or in small schools, over silty, sandy slopes, rubble, and seagrass beds, of sheltered lagoons and coastal reefs, rich with invertebrate growth.
They feed on crustaceans, molluscs, and worms.
Juveniles shelter in sea pens and sea-whips, often lining up vertically to hide behind sea-whips.

Widespread Southeast Atlantic, Indo-West Pacific

Filefish can alter their colour and pattern to match their surrounds and so deter predators.
