Found in clear, cold headwater creeks, lakes, small to large rivers and over intertidal coastal streams.
They feed on cephalopods, small fish and aquatic and terrestrial invertebrates.

Widespread North America - Arctic, Canada - introduced to cold water lakes and rivers around the world.
